Renamo prisoner with gun

In an early morning attack on the village of Chihaquelane, about 40 km. from Chókwè in Gaza province, three heavily-armed columns of Renamo killed 60 of the inhabitants and injured another 40, many of whom were in critical condition in the following days. The group also kidnapped another 100 people and took with them a large number of cattle. During the month other attacks took place at Nikitir in Nampula province, and in Marromeu, where an elderly couple were burned alive when a rocket hit their dwelling. The MNR also ambushed a convoy in Nampula, killing 23 civilians, and another convoy in Tete, killing seven people, including Zimbabweans. They also attempted to shoot down an aircraft carrying food aid in the central province of Sofala.
