The extreme brutality of the conflict in Mozambique was demonstrated yet again on the 14th, when Renamo attacked a passenger train at Movene, in Chanculo district on the Ressano Garcia line, about 15 km. inside Mozambique. The train, which was mainly carrying migrant mine-workers returning from South Africa, was blown up with a landmine, and then raked with machine-gun fire, killing 77 people. The attackers had been infiltrated from South Africa.
